Former Vice Chair of Global Communications Giant Joins Washington-Based NSI

“A Chance to Rewrite the Rules of the Game”

Washington, D.C. — January 13, 2010 — Paul Johnson, former vice chair of Fleishman-Hillard, one of the world’s largest public relations networks, has joined Washington, D.C.-based National Strategies LLC (NSI) as the president of its public affairs and strategic communications group, NSI chief executive officer Al Gordon announced today. NSI, a market leader in government consulting, has grown by more than 300 percent in the past 18 months.

“This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to work with innovative and successful risk-takers committed to rewriting the rules of the game,” said Johnson. “We’re totally rethinking what a strategic communications company should be — and how it can best meet the needs of clients in the 21st century. I look forward to expanding the breadth and depth of NSI’s public affairs and communications offerings.”

Johnson’s mission, CEO Gordon emphasized, is to build upon NSI’s best-in-class government markets consultancy. “NSI is privileged to add an incredible talent such as Paul Johnson,” Gordon said. “Paul has traveled a road similar to the one we envision for NSI, yet also understands the challenges of a radically different world. Economic, social, and technological changes have created a competitive space that didn’t exist a few years ago. NSI is putting in place the pieces to dominate that space. Paul has already helped NSI win a number of large strategic accounts that combine public affairs, strategic communications, government markets, and government relations expertise.”

NSI provides clients around the globe with strategy and insight in navigating complex procurement, public affairs, legislative, and regulatory processes at the federal, state, and local levels. Established in 1996, NSI has generated more than $7.3 billion in new revenue for its clients. In addition to its Washington, D.C. headquarters, NSI has offices in Atlanta, Ga., Tallahassee, Fla., Albany, N.Y., New York City and Brussels, plus a network of more than 2,000 bipartisan consultants located in every state capital and in major markets throughout the U.S.

Pegasus Capital Advisors L.P., a private equity fund that manages approximately $1.8 billion in assets, is a principal investor in NSI.

"NSI has created significant bottom-line value for its clients," said Craig Cogut, Pegasus founder and co-managing director. "We share the NSI team's vision for its future. As he expands the firm's capabilities, Paul is superbly equipped to apply NSI's 'return on investment' philosophy."

NSI's new hire spent 23 years at Fleishman, growing the company's mid-Atlantic region into the agency's top profit center. In addition to serving as co-chair of the firm's executive management committee, Johnson aligned the agency's 28 practice groups to meet market trends and client needs, built the firm's international advisory board, and spearheaded numerous successful acquisitions and agency integrations, including GMMB, R. Duffy Wall, Strat@comm, Vox Global Mandate, and FH North Carolina.

Johnson said he declined several opportunities with other large agencies because of NSI’s vision, business model, and the strength of its capital partnership. “NSI has a great results-oriented culture, an unparalleled track record, and an incredibly strong financial partner in Pegasus. The company is poised for significant growth, and I look forward to an unlimited future.”
